Just a reminder that The United States of Truckmerica doesn’t have a new Nissan Frontier, but !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Kinja'd!!!

It comes with a 2.5 I4 gas engine with 158 hp and 172 lbs-ft or a 2.5 I4 diesel with 2 tunes; 161/297 or 188/332. The diesel engines combined fuel economy is 32-33 mpg (gas is 26). The transmissions are either 6 speed manuals or a 7 speed auto (looks to be exclusive to the high tune diesel)

Its the same Navara NV300 the rest of the world gets but...there it is as a Nissan Frontier. So, if you wonder what a Navara based Frontier replacement looks like...now you know.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Given that Mexico is a NAFTA member (no chicken tax) and that this and the Renault Alaskan are built there...why the ever loving hell isn’t Nissan bringing this here to replace the ancient D40 Frontier? Are they trying to figure out what engine to put in there besides the diesel?

According to Wiki, it’s produced in Spain, Argentina, and Thailand, so chicken tax might be a factor.

The fact that it is made in a NAFTA country does not mean that it is built to match any US standards.

“The Frontier is known as Nissan Navara in most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, and South Africa and Nissan Terrano in Chile (only the D40 series is known as Navara). It is currently built in Canton, Mississippi , Spain, South Africa, Thailand , Philippines, China, Malaysia, Mexico (alongside the Renault Alaskan ) , Argentina and Egypt .”

Thats not whats implied, I’m only saying that its not an “import” in the eyes of the chicken tax. Its very likely that it would need work to come here but...its already LHD, its probably a damn sight safer than the D40 and once they calibrated a US engine for it, it wouldn’t be hard to meet emissions (gas anyway)

I’m thinking Nissan must be watching how the “new” Toyota, GM line and Honda do and if Ford ever gets a new ranger to market. The US demand for smaller pickups just isn’t what it used to be and it’s getting pretty crowded already... But maybe if the diesel Titan does well, they could build on that success with a new diesel Frontier I suppose..

4 stars in the EuroNcap is not great but pretty good for a truck:

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it would test just fine on the US tests (granted it would have to do them all over again with whatever new gas engine they picked. come to think of it...what gas engine could they even put in there? The VQ35 is the same old tired thing as the VQ40 thats in the current frontier.

The facelifted Pathfinder has a “new” direct injected VQ35, but I’m guessing they are developing an all new v6 for the Frontier and Titan. Especially because a CVT truck wouldn’t make sense.
